10th December,2009:- This is Pratik reporting from Chinsurah Lunch Ghat. Time 8:15 a.m. Just now five people, including a Comet fell into Hugli river from lunch while boarding it. A very sad incident was just awaiting to happen but the accident was averted due to quick presence of mind shown by the members of the ferry service. I catch up with the Comet and trying to find out what had really happened.

Excerpts from Comet's speech:-

Actually, I am a passenger of 8:05 a.m. But due to some technical snaps it was canceled and so I was waiting to board 8:15 a.m. ferry service. In order to catch the 8:23 a.m. Shantipur local, I decided to stand on the deck of the lunch. So, was waiting when the lunch will leave. I boarded it at the last moment when the deck was more or less crowded. As soon as the rope got released, I realized a back pull and before can realize anything, found my self under water and drowning. At that moment only I thing appeared in my mind that I am dying but within a second I found my self floating in between the jetty and the lunch with four other people besides me, trying desperately to save their individual lives. Keeping my head cool I quickly grabbed the wooden frame of the jetty and was then later rescued by the ferry service members. Coming out of the water I found that others were trying to grab me in order to board the lunch and all were above forty-years of age. A little here-there will made my back or head banged by jetty and I am a gone case as I was falling on the back side without any balance and can go anywhere either under the jetty or under the lunch.

Surely a close save. This is Pratik signing off from the jetty.
